Website Illustrations

A previous employer was undergoing a refresh of their website during the Summer and Fall of 2018. Though I had moved on to doing freelance contract work, the company reached out to me to help with Hero and Spot illustrations for their new site.

Step 1
Low Fidelity Sketches

Since I had been employed there for over two years, the transition into the project was quick and without any hold-ups. I was working with the same people I’d spent past 24 months with, and our rapport was the same as it was before it left.

This project called for 24 illustrations to be used wherever they fit throughout the website. The colors were simple: mostly stick with an approachable blue, and add in yellow and red for accents when needed.

The theme was loosely based on superheroes and providing the necessary support to clients that would allow them to be their own superheroes for their co-workers.  This approach allowed me to conceptualize until I settled on a simplistic style for characters, and a retro look for objects and environments.

Drafts and Feedback

Step 3
Final Illustrations

My goal was to create illustrations that would look right at home in the Sunday paper comic strips, while not being too childish that they turned off more seasoned audiences. Everything had to be easy to look at, pleasing to behold, and needed to embody the idea of cooperation and friendliness.

After many pieces of concept art, revisions, and melding of multiple concepts into single images, I completed the company’s order and packaged everything for them to easily use moving forward. This project was a complete joy to work on, and it inspired me to pursue my own work in book illustration and, eventually, authoring!
