Birds of Patterson Park

Join me as I spend a day in Patterson Park, located in north Canton, a neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland.

The birds loved flying around on this particular day. I had so much fun watching them take off and land on the water.

Night Vision: a horror tale

I made this to practice short-form storytelling. As a life-long fan of horror films, my natural instinct was to make something creepy, and my subject graciously humored me.

We shot this over the course of two days. One aspect I wanted to attempt was a “day-for-night” technique wherein footage or photography shot during the day is made to look like it was shot at night. I used this technique for some interior scenes where the subject is seen writing.

This was a very fun project to shoot, and I plan to use this as a template for similar projects in the future!

A Working Artist

I conceptualized this as an autobiographical piece depicting the dual-nature of my life. During the day, I worked on renovations of my Baltimore home, and by night I focused on my artwork and creative writing.

Artists don’t always live the glamorous, hip life that’s often depicted in film and television. Even when they are depicted as “struggling,” they’re always struggling in really nice industrial apartments or living life like they don’t have a care in the world.

Daily life for a working artist can be difficult because we have to financially support ourselves while also keeping the spark alive.

A Sense of Place

Traveling around Maryland for this project, I fI discovered multiple destinations which I never would have visited otherwise. I found a park near my apartment with young trees wrapped in hay to keep them warm for the winter. This park also had a pond that was still frozen over.  Deer meandered across the way, adding life and character to my photos. I photographed a gas station by my barber which, in the evenings, has a synthwave, ‘80s, cyberpunk type of vibe with neon lights in the twilight. I got stuck in a snow storm in. Harper’s Ferry, which was a happy accident that allowed me to get tremendous shots with the hazy winter clouds looming overhead. It was a magnificent experience.
